Hi, i have my 500 Chm insured as my main car even though i only do about 2000 miles a year, but use my full no claims on it coz my runabouts are normally cheap and crappy and low groups, but i might be buying a clio williams as my runabaout, so i dont knwo what to do about insurane as they are both high groups. Can anyone recommed a classic or such insurer that i can insure the chim with, one that i wont have to use my no claims and can save that for clio, either way i am sure you know what i mean lol i am 35 and have full no claims by the way. Thanx in advance for any help, sugestions or advice :-) Jez

Some insurers will mirror your 'no claims' from your main car to your second car thereby giving you full no claims on both. I've done this with classic cars through Footman James and my TVR through Sunninghill.

Not sure how much you pay for your insurance, but I have mine (again with mirrored no claims) with Herts insurance. Their prices are very low (I pay just over £500) but their service sucks! I had a quote from Tesco which came in at about £600. Hope this helps.

I guess the price you pay is dependent on so many factors. I'm 32 and have full no claims with car parked off-road. I'd have a look in Sprint magazine if I was you. There are loads of ad's in their for specialist high performance insurers.

Hi jezgod

If you only do 2K miles as your main car why don't you insure as your second car? as a second car you can be insured up to 6K miles?? and still have your no claims matched maybe they can insure your car 2 or 3K miles which should bring your premium down. Try classicline, I insure my Chim 500 as a second car and I pay about £500 for 6K miles and I am 35, they advertise in sprint www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk or 01455 639000.

Cheers
Dave

Cheers dave, i will also give them a try, soo many options and of course everywhere is closed for the bank holiday. I am deffo getting the clio now, and it needs taxing ( typical ), there is only about a month left on the chim insurance anyway, so looks like tuesday is going to be a busy day of phone around lol

I have my Chimaera insured as a second car through AON (Modern Classic Policy). It is insured for up to 5000 miles a year and was about £650. They don't require a NCB as it's a classic car policy, so you can use your NCB on your other car.

Adrian Flux also gave me a good quote - you'll find their contacts in Sprint.

Before you go with a specialist have a look at this site
www.moneysupermarket.com/insurancedefault.asp
it's a search engine that looks at most of the major players on-line.. worked for me, as a newbie to the world of high performance sports cars, I managed to insure my chim as a second car for a little over £600 for 3000 miles.

Also, adding your spouse the the policy will reduce it further.. something to do with spreading the risk etc. Mind you, if you don't have a spouse, pay the extra for the insurance!!!

just tried adrian flux, he quoted me 900 for the chim with full no claims( which i think is steep ) and 550 for the clio with no no claims ( which i think is reasonable )So clio with him me thinks and shall find some else for the chim Thats the plan anyway lol

Give Norwich Union a try - I have 4 cars insured with them and for every one no one else could beat the quotes they gave me - and for the chim 450 well lets see, I have 1 year No claims, 4 previous claims against me (all vandalism grrrr) , me and the Mrs covered fully comp including legal cover and some other bells and whistles - the car has uprated suspension and brakes and on a 6k/year was £725. I thought that was an absolute bargain ! The specialists in sprint (I called all of them!) wanted between £1100 and £1800 for less cover than I get from NU .

ClassicLine is on 01455 639035.. I have a Focus ST170 as main car with full no claims and business use thru another insurer. The Tiv is now insured as second car without the NC being used. Overall, it worked out the cheapest way to insure both cars.

It may be worth pricing up both options (ie swapping around the main car) and even seeing the costs for both cars thru the same firm...
