Chim 4.0 v VX220 Turbo

Despite my nagging him to buy a Tiv, a friend at work has just bought a VX220 Turbo. It's had a few mods (ECU, exhaust, airfilter) to take the standard 190 bhp to 250 bhp (alledgely confirmed by a rolling road)
Now I'm worried that when we rag it round the local country lanes, he's in a seriously good position to do me like a kipper.
Anyone had any experience of going against a VX 220 Turbo?

The VX Turbo is basically an Elise on steroids.
You may be able to take him on the straights, especially mid-range where the Chims torque weill be a major benefit but on the twisties forget it. VX's and Elises are some of the fastest cars round the bends and providing the drivers are pretty equal I'd say he'd have you easily.

Came across one of these in my grif (standerd 5l at the time ) and must say there v quick upto 110 not getting away but also not catching quickly after that the game was up the cubic inchs proved to much (trackday of course 
).One of the reasons for getting M Adams and Austec to do there thing .

The tuned VX should be slightly faster up to about 120 but over that the crappy aerodynamics become a problem. Round the bends there might not be that much in it due to the understeer that VXs generate on the skinny front tyres. The standard brakes are also poor on the VX.
...and of course TVR's are reknowned for their superior aerodynamic qualities
I'm afraid I have no doubt that a 250bhp VX would eat a 4.0 Chim for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Someone mentioned mid-range; the VX would win again - Turbo's always deliver strong mid range. Throw in a few corners and it'd be game over I'm afraid. If you can stay with or get away from the VXT then either you are hugely gifted behind the wheel or he is crap.
I don't get these sort of posts... why are you bothered...? Why did you buy the Chim in the first place..?
There are quicker cars than my 450 Chimaera, there are better handling cars than it too... do I care..? Not really. Why..? I bought it because of the way it makes me feel - it makes me smile every time I get in it, and I still feel lucky to own it.
Enjoy your car for what it is, and appreciate your mates VX for what it does and don't get hung up on which car is qucker...

Just been for a blat in it.
Have to say it's very quick, although the ride is really hard and it's bloody difficult to get in & out of. Very small inside as well.
The sound of the turbo whine reminded me of my MR2 days
I can understand why he bought it, but I'll stick to the Tiv! Nothing beats that V8 burble.

Those VXs are stunning cars. Long may the VX badge ruin their residuals so that the cognoscenti can buy 'em as a performance bargain. There is no point comparing the highly practical, high smiles per mile, beautiful Chimaera with one.
Which one would you take on a two week touring holiday of Europe? You could take both. But I know which one I'd prefer to be in. Same goes for a hoon in the country.
On a track I'd have the VX every time.
Have you got the sports exhaust mod? It won't make it any quicker, but when you're parking up it'll sound fantastic compared to any inline 4 with any aftermarket exhaust system. Then, rev it a few times so it crackles and pops. See if he regrets his Vauxhall purchase. Childish, I know 
according to the stats, the VX and a Chim 4.0 are identical 0-60 (i am being generous to the Chim re power and acceleration figures, 240 bhp, come on!!!!!)
so let's be generous and say that the chim engines are not as strong today as they were in their first flushes of youth, ergo you would get your arses handed to you in a straight line by a standard VX, let alone a modded one, as for the twisties, the same applies.

Hence the reason I only said MAY be able to take him. Personally I really couldn't give a sh#t what cars are faster than my car, I enjoy it for what it is and know it's not the worlds fastest car. Though anyone who says they are slow does need they're head testing.

C3GTK has a seriously fast VXTurbo, quick enough to hassle the Diablo ALL the way to Le Mans, and back, i have mucho respecto for the VX now, apart from the farting sound it makes when you rev it, its no comparison in the sound stakes fellas...
