Rover Gearbox Oil?

Sorry all, but the thread search doesn't seem to be working...

SS80 is recomended.. but i remember reading that other specs may actually be better.. ATF or Dextron II ?

ATF is too thin, gear oil will give crunchy gears when cold. Castrol SMX is the stuff to use.

You can get a full synth ATF from demon-tweeks. It's a bit expensive but seeing as how the box and more importantly the pump is design for ATF it's what I used.

I have no problems getting gears.

AFAIK ATF was specified only because Rover boxed cars in the US were experiencing crunchy gear syndrome when cold. Check out RPI, they swear by SMX. I dont believe ATF is up to the job.
