Sad I know but winters coming and for some of us it means the Chim has to sit out in the rain. If you have the same predicament as me then don't be sold an expensive car cover but instead try getting the heavy duty car cover from Argos (ref: 740/9594) which fits like a glove to my Chimaera and only costs £19.99.

Comes in a rather fetching green but has blown off a couple of times (the cover .... not me) so it needs to be tied down.

PS. NO ... I don't have shares in Argos .... they do have some nice seat covers too though !!!

It isn't only the cheap covers that blow off. I bought a Covercraft Weathershield for my chim and the recent wind turned it into a wind sock. Fortunately I had the wire/padlock looped under the car so it just ended up blowing around the floor!

If it is getting that windy - leave the cover off! Otherwise, it will slowly wear the laquer off your paint - especially at the seams of the cover.

What size of cover did you get - are they sized or just one size does all cars.

I bought a cheap (£20) cover from a local motor factors - can't remember the make (silver in colour) which is quoted as "suitable for cars up to 4M in length". The Chim's about 4.03M or so and the cover fits fine.

That said it only has elastic at the front and rear and a string under the car to hold it down and blows off in the wind.

So...... I threaded a length of nylon cord through the seam around the edge (next to the elastic). Now when I fit the cover I tie the cord as tight as I can and.....

.... force 10+ gales over the last few days have failed to dislodge it!

It's a good point about the damage from movement, though - a good couple of layers of wax and being tied tight helps but won't stop the problem.

If you want to spend a wee bit more (£60-ish), Halfords sell a groovy silver Tyvek car cover that is waterproof AND breathable. You can leave it on your car for any length of time. There is no chaffing or condensation that hurts the paintwork. I bought one for the Golf some years back when it used to be parked under mature trees - and we all know what that means! Caro recently drove down for the last V.W. meet, and we covered her Chimaera overnight. Size Medium fits the Chimaera very nicely

Right click on a smiley and see where it takes you! There you can chose a smiley, copy its URL and paste this into your message using the exact string

IMG SRC="URL"

enclosing the complete string between < >

Take out the "img /img" tags, then put a < at the beginning and a > at the end, with double quotes before the http: and after the file extension of the smilie name

BTW, great smilie site, that - I can see a lot of good swag finding its way into Gassing pages in the coming weeks!
