oil pressure switch

Every time I switch the ignition on the oil pressure gauge swings right round to 90 and stays there, I've tried another gauge that i have and it's the same so I'm assuming that it's the sender on the engine. Trouble is I don't know where it is can anyone advise 1 would this be the likely culprit and 2 where is it and how do I test it.

Its down near the oil filter and has a single wire to it, in order for it to do your readings, it must be short cicuit(rare i would think). Remove the spade connector and it should drop to Zero, if not its a wiring short to chassis/earth.

Or you could get one from a dealer, about £50.

The sender is just a variable resistor attached to a diaphragm on a spring. It moves according to the pressure the oil exerts on it.

Sounds like your sender has developed a short to earth.

Be careful with that number as there are at least two different types of sender used on Chims - possibly more.
There is a switch which operates the oil pressure light and there is a seperate sender which operates the gauge.
The gauge sender (on my 94 chim) is near the oil filter pointing downwards with a single wire coming off it.
Hope this helps - buy a bible it'll save you time in the long run.
