GRP covering in Halfords carbon stylee stuff I think. MY T350s roof panels are carbon fibre and they weight less than nothing. The Chimaera roof isn't that light at all (OK, its not steel heavy either).

I seem to remember a 400HC Chimaera. I also remember the old web-site claiming that the 400 and the 450 had identical 0..60 times at 4.7 seconds. The 450 had a claimed higher top speed, IIRC. Which I have always doubted - given that its the same gearbox and rev limit. (Yes I know early Chims had a different gearbox).

IIRC where the 450 and 500 did better was in the 60 - 100mph range.

All down low the advantage of the 500.

The 450 gives you more top end due to the power increase but its a lot smoother than either the 4 or the 5.

There were HC 400's and 500's and maybe even the odd 430HC Chim

Of course they can work out that it will only be achievable IF its pushed off a cliff - for themselves

Are you sure?! It's entirely the wrong colour for Kevlar (sort of pale yellow material, normally). Mine certainly looks like Carbon fibre.

We wre trying to cut/rip it and the name stuck with me.

So how come it is black? this is what Kevlar looks like. Even in a fabric that is woven mix of carbon and Kevlar, you can quite clearly see the yellow strands of Kevlar. On the targa panel of my Griff, I see nothing but carbon. Is there a lay up of Kevlar on the top, hidden by the roof fabric, with carbon only on the exposed inner face?

I've worked with Kevlar quite a bit myself, though, so I know what you mean about cutting it!

I will have a look at my chim.

It was a long time ago when I got the piceces of Kevlar so cant remember what colour the fabric is.

I remember it being overlaid with carbon so maybe thats what you see, plus the shiny dark finish may have something to do with it.

Had look at the pics, the stuff Dad brought home was black with strands woven into it. That was a prototype though. Perhaps they ended up using the carbon/kevlar mix...?

Black with strands woven into it sounds like carbon/kevlar mix, which makes sense - would be ideal for the job. But the stuff I can see on my car is definitely plain carbon fabric, with clear gelcoat.

When did they introduce it, though? Is later production cars only?
