Used Austec for the first time,Chassis refurb(a superb job,recommend this to any owner,extremely reasonable charge,too.)Also,ACT Induction kit(will small animals be sucked in to their death?)Silicon hoses,Valvoline oil,Stepper cleaned etc.

Thaty doesn't sound too good. I know lots of people who have used Hammerite to good effect (and isn't it recommended in the Bible?).
Personally, I'd prefer POR15 though...
Sorry for the delay replying guys, computer probs..apparently,a chemical is applied,(this is not a 'body off'refurb),to eradicate the muck of centuries,then painted,I don't think Paul said Hammerite,you'd have to ask him,finished with 'Waxoyl'

Just to let you guys know, cost is now 295 + VAT, spoke with Austec this morning and it's becoming too labour intensive so they've had to put the price up. Apparently it's 2 days work, so hopefully this would mean it really is a proper job. Mines booked in for 3rd October along with a 6k service so will report back then with a 2nd opinion.

Stay clear of Hammerite though, it has the impact resistance of a Walkers crisp!
A good sloppy coat of Waxoyl underseal will finish off the job nicely if you don't mind how it looks - just don't get too close to the engine, exhaust or radiator with it as it will keep melting (he says with the benefit of hindsight!).
Just booked my Chimaera (97 4.0 21k miles)in for a 24,000 service and chassis refurb with Austec too. They need the car for at least 3 days in all so back to the Volvo !
Austec seem to be v popular so thought I would give them a go as my local Kent main dealer seem to want huge amounts on money..... Any one had the 24,000 mile service done by these guys?

Nuggs / Runt. Thanks for replies. I've just spent a couple of weekends cleaning up my wishbones, outriggers and the chassis tubes that protrude into the front & rear arches and coating with POR15. It's no fun and £250 or £295 for someone else to do it sounds very good to me, provided you think its a good job. And, of course, you don't get a 2" diam blob of POR15 right on the top of your bald head either!
BTW, that stuff is not as hard to get off as others say it is, all you need is a razor blade, pan scourer and a g/f who's not too squeamish . . .

Bluejay-Your'll not regret the 3 days at Austec if my experience is typical. As I mentioned,the Chassis treatment is a very thorough job,and as McCracken says,at that price,a bargain.My car looks like new underneath.As to servicing,Paul Austin is obviously a perfectionist and your car will feel in the rudest of good health.They're good at cleaning your car,too.

Its my first TVR, i have been smiling since I picked it up in July. These cars are great, I guess they just need looking after and they need to be used.
I try to remember that it is just a car after all
