I am in the process of pulling the entire dash out of my Chimaera to instal a new a/c blower and assorted bits. The top panel came off with relative ease (thanks Trefor), but what lies beneath looks downright scary. Has anyone ever removed the entire dash from a Chimaera? Help. Piglet. Me.

PS - the Foxguard alarm packed it in ages ago and I now use the secret keyhole under the rear number plate to open the doors. Can I simply unplug the black box in the dash and throw it away?

Andy, I would bheck the wires from the black box before you just unplug it and throw it away although I can't see it doing much, If you follow the wires down you can take the whole lot out properly, + If I was you I would remove the secret bit!!!, some people are funny about it on here although if a thief was given the option of going through it all to get in or just slashing the roof in under a second I wonder which option they will take!!!!

P.S. have you put a new alarm on, I presume so because of the locking - If so becareful taking the old one out incase some of the wires have been accidentally included into the new one!!!!!

cheers
Richard

Thats a bit strong, lets not be too anal about this . I've always thought that if someone wants to get in, they just use the express route... via the back screen!!

My apologies. I was not aware that the Chimaera factory manual was covered by the Official Secrets Act. Given the reaction to my earlier comment, I certainly won't venture to explain to the UK public how to pull apart velcro!

Hopefully, someone will now be kind enough to enlighten me on the secret techniques involved in removing the lower dash!

Try this site - http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Peter_Beech/TVR/Index.htm

It only covers removal of the top part but it might be worth emailing the site owner as he appears to be very knowledgable.

Hope this helps

If you need help with the Foxguard module wiring I may be able to help, the most common one has two big plugs and five colour coded small plugs to connect it. Fitted a good few in the distant past, should be able to remember most of it. If you have the Thatcham version with the all black loom and the wire tags have been cut off you are in trouble. If you have coloured loom, tell me the colours and I should be able to work out what they do.
