Boot Light

Does anyone know if the Chim was fitted with a boot light? or has anyone fitted one? I can never find anything in mine when its dark.

I bought some fireflys and installed them in a jar in the boot, Make sure you install some small air holes in the top otherwise they will just die, i learnt this the hard way, makes carrying petrol an added fire risk though...

In hindsight i suppose buying a torch or wiring up a boot light would have been a better idea...

No, it wasn't.

Reeso had some lights installed in his Griff, and I think ModWise did an LED kit...

I've gone the Maglite route...

If your car is a pre-facelift just leave the side lights on. The number plate lights illuminate the boot quiet well.

Mine has a boot light which was fitted before I got the car. Works very well and I can actually see stuff in the boot. I will try and post a picture later in the week.

I've not done it yet, but it's on my list of things to do ! Small tip - buy some white cold cathode tubes from one of the computer places (I normally use ebuyer). They're cheap as anything and a pair of 12" in my old E36 BMW lit up the whole boot almost as if it was daylight ! I'm going to put those two tubes in the Chimp, tucked up high, one on each side of the boot.

Thanks to all for your comments, I didn't want to re-invent the wheel if someone had already gone this way. In my mazda MX5 they did a good kit in stainless steel which just wired to the battery (in the boot on the mazda) and had a halogen bright light and a mercury tilt switch so the whole assembly just bolted in and worked really well, maybe I'll adapt one of these. In any case I will post a reply if I get round to it.

I fitted the mod-wise kit to the Griff and asked David for 2 leds - 1 each side which velcro on the underside of the rear arch. I did have the remote boot release and the kit just plugs into this and was a doddle. Operated by a magnet on the strut which I turn around in summer months and back again for the winter. Work a treat.
