ECU change.....is there much to gained?

Have seen a few posts recently about changing ECU's is there much or anything to be gained over the stock set up or a Tornado re-chip

Yes,theres a lot to be gained from changing ecu,if your considering re-mapping.Firstly,the dinosaur lucas ecu is very restrictive when it comes to capabilities for performance.An alternative ecu can control so many more things that you may like to use in the future-eg from your cooling fans to turbo lag,the list is large!With the lucas you only have two injector outputs,so can only run bank fired injection.You cannot map the ignition with it-full stop(this is a serious restiction).Lastly,it costs a lot more to get mapped than an alternative ecu,as theres only one guy who can officially map it,so he can charge what he likes.With an alternative you can get it mapped at just about any rolling road in the country,and youll pay a lot less as i've found.
'Trackcar Solutions' are about to offer an alternative ecu(megasquirt),fitted and mapped for £500 target price,now thats seriously good value.The megasquirt is a very good ecu,with great capabilities,and i must admit,with hindsight,its what i should have chosen.Even if all you fancy doing is just fine tuning a std car,then this is a far better alternative than getting the lucas mapped,as you never know when you might want to get mapped again,weather you become a 'modder' or not

I think the waiting list could be a long one!!
Is anyone on here already running a megasquirt on their chim or griff?

lol .. I'm going to be ms'ing the S very soon. it'll do all that teh antique lucas can do, plus ignition I can't do it just yet as a customer thing as it all hinges on me doing my own mapping and not having to get a third party to do it .. but that's only about 2 months away
