Chim boot leak

Hi,

I've got a '96 Chim 4L that I've had for a few months. I don't use the boot much so never really had much reason to look in there however, I noticed the other day that it leaks like a sieve.

Upon not so close inspection, there is a gap between the boot lid and the body of about 1cm. This gap is only present along the driver's side. Along this side, the boot sits a little proud of the body.

It doesn't look like any bits have been replaced (i.e. I don't think that I can see any evidence of crash repair).

Has anybody had similar experiences and, more importantly, is there a way to fix it?

Its the piston that normally holds the boot open when you're using it. It pushes that side up.

Sounds to me like you need some nice new fat seals along the boot lip, as mine does the same thing but doesn't leak.

Actually, it does leak very very slightly, sometimes I can feel a slight dampness where the tools go, but its not exactly a swimming pool so I'm not bothered by it. I think it mainly happens when I wash the car, which is at least once a week.

Maybe the piston is knackered and not alowing the boot to close properly ? Take off the gas strut - its just a quick spanner job - then see if the boot closes properly. If it does then a new strut is about £30 - I know 'cause I had top replace mine 3 weeks ago...
