I’ve got my baby back!
Discussion
Hi folks,
I was 4rsing about on AutoTrader last week having spent a day watching Chimp videos and as usual regretting selling my 4.0 around 6 years ago….
And there she was!
Cue ‘don’t worry darling - it’s an investment’ (although I did get her an MX5 as a wedding present a few weeks ago), a quick phone call and…she’s mine again! (The car - not the wife)
What a motor. So pleased.
I’ve been using a 2.7 987 for the last 4 years and it’s the perfect car for country driving but the Trevor is just epic. The Boxster should probably go now but the TVR will be my daily drive. It’s only done c. 2000 miles in 6 years so I think I’ll need to go on some trips to keep it happy. And me.
One very happy memory from 7yrs ago was when I promised my son that if he passed his driving test he could drive the Chimp.
- he passed
- it was raining cats and 🐕
- he unsurprisingly insisted so…
- we went up the A23 very slowly and…
- he got to drive it again in the sunshine yesterday. It was worth buying the car just to see his face and hear him laugh.

Thank you
There’s another story to this wonderful car
I took my dad on late in life euro trips in various lovely cars to amazing places
Once, we went to Germany. Nuremberg. He said to me - as we trundled on to the Eurotunnel-
‘now son, you know your mother’s not here?’
‘Erm….yes dad. It’s a two seater…’
‘And you know I don’t touch the old gold watch or ciggies now?’
‘Yep’
The old boy proceeds to pull out a bottle of Bells and 20 bensons…
‘Wake me up in Germany’
So…I belt through Belgium and a couple of nights later we’re in Nuremberg (as he says to the waitress ‘ah, Nuremberg. Such a trial’
(Yep really)
Anyway a few days later we’re on the B500 and I sort of floored it and he says:
‘What a motor son. What a motor’
He died last year. Somehow made 80 (ret’d CID officer). He loved it as much as I do.
What a motor indeed. A car for memories.
It’s the only car I’ve had that can make me laugh like a loon then cry minutes later. Good tears though.
(And the previous owners did all the work I should have had done 😇)
