Took my Chim in for a 6k interim service and chassis prep (285 & 295 + VAT respectively), not wanting a huge bill as insurance and tyres (x4) also due next month.
Needed 2 new rocker gaskets, clutch slave cylinder seals and a new stepper motor which including labour add another £450 to the bill. I swear these cars have built in extras just waiting to fail before service time...
Has anyone out there ever been lucky enough to only have to pay the fixed service cost?

Yep - over here 
I'm struggling to remember the last time I had 'extras' at a service. In fact, apart from just buying a complete new set of discs I'm struggling to remember the last time I spent anything between services except for petrol!

To be fair I have a lot of extra (perhaps OTT) work done on my car. It's used every day and lives outside, so it needs to be treated that way.
Services just tend to get in between the other bits I have done!

Thing that has really annoyed me though is that my last major service was 6mths ago and I had the rocker gaskets changed then - which are now leaking again so obviously weren't done properly. Austec also noted that both my manifold gaskets are leaking, again these were only done 5 months ago when I had new manifolds fitted, also by the same garage that did my 12K service (Podie, you'll know who I mean) - Not happy, had a few doubts even then so I guess thats why I ended up driving 112 miles to take it to Austec this time round.
I told them to just make a list of jobs to do when i put mine in so it wouldnt cost the earth. They made a list so i could do the work myself, but still charged me for a new horn switch on the steering wheel?

Austec changed the nearside rocker cover gasket - doesn't leak now
Note though that the offside is a lot harder to change as it has the high pressure fuel lines running close to it
Zipee - A little concerned about this given that I'm also Cambs based...Perhaps I should plan to go further afield! (Obvioulsy not got the hang of this quote thing)
