I in the US and thinking about removing the catalytic converters on my Chim...but don't know where they are, how to do it, or if the engine then needs to be adjusted to the change. I removed it when I had my 280i, and it seemed to improve the performance.

Pre cats are in the exhaust manifolds, these require removing to get out. Smash them up with whatever you have really, long masonary drill bits, chisels etc.
Main cat is in the y section and you can't miss it really, consider buying a de catted y though from someone like Clive f.
Emissions laws not strict in the US are they?

Thanks. Any car over 25 years of age is exempt from most rules in most states...including the emissions . Sounds like a lot more effort than the return value, so I'll put this off for another season or two. Shipping an exhaust to the US has to be a fortune.

Fair enough, if no regs you can crack on and smash them out.
Main y piece cat can sound a bit tinny when removed but plenty of foot down action and you won't notice it!
