Where is the handbrake indicator switch located?

The normally excellent Bible is a little vague on this point. Says that it's 'in the transmission tunnel' or similar.

How do I get to it? The light is intermittent, flickering breifly when I apply the handbrake so I know its not the fuse / bulb. Interestingly it seems to come one more frequently when parked on my steep drive....

Bet your brake fluids low,check that first.

Thanks Chev - I'll do that. It shouldn't be though as it was serviced less that 750 miles ago...

The switch sometimes comes on low down in the handbrake travel and then flickers and goes off again when fully engaged. No problems with handbrake holding on top notch on steep drive. Is this consistent with low fluid levels?

The switch is under the handbrake but you have to take out the transmission tunnel cover from inside the car to get at it. You have to disconnect the handbrake cable from the rear of the car so that the handbrake can be pulled almost upright to be able to take the cover off. Once the leather covers are off there is a long fibreglass top tunnel held with lots of screws and sealant which is then removed to gain access to the handbrake lever mechanism.

Arrrgh.... how did I know it wasn't going to be simple?

Checked brake fluid level last night and it was fine.
The cap was a little loose though but no leakage, since tightening the light works fine - I suspect a poor connection to the level sensor.

At least it's not the handbrake switch!
