Manifold replacement
Discussion
Hi all,
Anyone had the exhaust manifold replaced on their P&J?
Mine needs doing as it 'ticks' and I have been informed by the gaage that services it that it needs doing.
So, anyone had there's done? How much should I expect it to cost me? Not really bothered about exahaust upgrade or anything like that, so a 'standard' part is what I was thinking......
Cheers
Pete

I had mine replaced about 5 months ago with ACT stainless De-Cat manifolds. Cost about £540 for the 2 manifolds plus a few hundred labour.
The ACT ones are treated by many as an upgrade BUT are actually cheaper than direct replacement parts from TVR.
Unless you can get a good 2nd hand pair I'd go the ACT option. Also bear in mind that its a known weakness with the std manifold for them to crack, especially on the nearside bank, so you may have to replace again a couple of years down the line.

"if you do replace the manifold, then consider treating the manifold against heat while its off the car. ie get it coated (silicon ?) or wrapped.
Note that there are differing opinions ove the merits of wrapping, but I would love to get the under bonet heat of my car down."
Yeah I'm not really sure about this...my very simplistic non mechanical view of this is.....it' gets hot, surely it's better for hte heat to be able to escape than to be trapped in?
I just don;t really know enough to be able to make a sensible judgement on this

If you do this be careful. The trapped heat has to go somewhere and will appear downstream ie, under the cabin.
Any rubber exhaust mounts should be replaced with metal springs or similar lest they melt.
