Front bonnet and side wings have a hundred stonechips picked up over time.

Just got this quote of £4600!

To strip all old paint and primer off down to the gelcoat, epoxy prime, flat off and re prime with PPG hi build primer, prepare for PPG basecoat and lacquer.

To apply basecoat and laquer bake off and to polish up.

45 hours @ £65.00 = £2925.00
Paint and sundries £950.00
£3875.00 + Vat = £4650.00

It’s not a terrible price if they’re going to do the job properly.

Equally it’s expensive if they’re going to do a crap job.

Good painters will charge big money because while it isn’t a difficult job, it requires good process for preparation and application, which not everyone is willing to invest the time/effort into.

That’s a very good price for all the work they are doing

No chance of a 'blowover' for £500 then?

That's why a lot of people just leave it and enjoy it. It will pick up new chips on the expensive new paint job and that would be heartbreaking.
Does seem ott though to me, may as well paint the whole car.

Good paintwork isn't cheap.
Cheap paintwork isn't good.

Hope this helps...

Seems on the steep side to me, I’d be curious to know how much a full car would be at the same place.

Almost guaranteed to pick up more stone chips on the way home. If it were me I’d be considering PPF or similar to protect the front end.

Central TVR have a price of £2190 on their website. Plus VAT presumably but perhaps don't do the bonnet? I haven't been there in years so can't vouch for the standard:

The whole car is £7k (plus VAT ?)

That's what I thought too, 950 for paint and bits? surely half a tin should do it, plus lacquer. Surely a tin of the correct paint cant be more than 150 quid? And id say that was steep, so what are the 'sundries'? wet and dry paper made from gold? Pre paint made from unicorn piss? I'm not an expert on paining cars but I've done a bit of spraying over the years and a grand for paint and bits just to do the front end smacks of some mark up, that's probably how they kept their labour rates so reasonable. Oh yeah thinners.... I forgot, a tenner a tin?

I keep reading how expensive paint is especially some of the TVR colours but I do struggle to understand why tbh.

Maybe the garage in question have been burned before and are pricing themselves out of the job.

3 quotes minimum from known painters with experience in fibreglass should provide the ball park figure.
