Hi everyone,

As a wannabe TVR owner! I'm building up my knowledge before making my purchase and was wondering about the level of security that TVR supplied to their cars.

Can you tell me if it's a Thatcham cat 1 system?

I seem to remember 'The Bible' includes a letter from TVR stating that the alarm (Meta on the later cars) as fitted does not qualify as category 1. But I stand to be corrected...

My Insurance company advised me that on their system factory fit TVR Meta alarms are identified category 2 - but I believe you can get an upgrade to cat 1 - not sure how much difference it would make to the insurance.

Edited to add: Its on page 263 of the bible Meta M99T is not cat 1 as fitted to the Chimaera, but the M36T immobiliser on its own is cat 2 (the Chim has the M99T linked to the M36T). Make of that what you will.

I'm pretty sure that my 99 Chim came with a letter saying that the combination of Meta bits that was factory installed qualified it for Cat 1?

As I understand it from reading thee hallowed pages and from the Bible, the factory fit components (Meta stuff) are capable of being Cat 1, but the way they are fitted to the Chim means they don't qualify. The problem was something to do with the kit not being wired up to a switch to indicate if the boot or the bonnet was open ... or something like that.
