New Camshaft?

I'm just in the research stage looking at what's what regarding a new cam on my 400.

I'm looking at Power and the V8 Developments websites and wondering if I'm reading it wrong.

Powers Camshaft change £4500 Inc VAT, for a grand or two more V8 Developments offer a long 4.0 engine for between £5,170- £6320 depending on spec of which both include a cam?

My engine is not far off the 100k mark and I plan to keep it long term so surely I'm better off getting a V8 Developments engine?

Am I far of the mark here?

Powers is a drive in, drive out cost. Is any labour included on a new engine?

If you can do this yourself, you can do a cam change.

For reference this is the fitted price I had quoted from V8 developments earlier this year. The kits if you are doing it yourself are listed on the website.

Stealth cam kit supplied and fitting, including oil and filter - £1,950 including the VAT.

Genuine lol at £4500 plus vat for a cam change, what`s that all about?
No real need to get a new engine, it will go on for another 100k if its been fairly well looked after and you continue to do so.
Maybe ask V8D for their advice if you are using them.

It's such an easy job on that engine in comparison to anything modern .
I can't believe the parts are more than £1000. Why do you think it needs doing btw. If it's had regular oil changes, it's likely still ok .

I remember looking at Powers Performance (still TVR Power then I think) in about 2015 regarding a cam change on an 80k mile Chimaera. It was £2500 drive in drive out I think. With standard inflation that'd be £4k now, although it does seem a lot.

Prices in general are ridiculous for a 60's GM engine, I was shocked when I started looking around.

You can buy whole Chimaeras for less than that cost.

Probably why mine is on 130k and hasn't been modified.

Well I'm glad the consensus is mainly in the direction of my own.

I thought maybe I was being "tight" about £4.5k being a lot as I'm fairly new to TVR ownership.

I won't mention the standard 4.0 engine rebuild at a near £8k then

They charge around £1000 for the cam kit alone so £1950 if its still close to that is not obscene really.
If I were to do it again I would probably look toward Real Steel for the camshaft as they get good feedback and are half the price.
Quality lifters is your biggest problem really.

That's exactly the price they should be.

It's a piece of steel with a few hours machining put into it.

I would guess the likes of Real Steel don't sell any old rubbish to be fair.
