Tyre question

My normal supplier for tyres seems to be having difficulty getting the the W rated Toyo Proxies that I normally use. I know this question comes up numerous time so my appologies for raising it again. But does anyone know what the current road tyre recommendations are for the Chimaera as I'm not too sure what else to try out.

It does, and has done so recently. Have you tried doing a search as I suspect those that contributed to recent threads will be less likely to repeat the advice all over again...

Are you trying to re-order the Proxies T1-S? If so they've been replaced with the T1-R's.

I had these fitted onto my Chimaera - upgraded to 245s on the rear as well.

I was very happy with the performance of the T1-R's.

Make sure that the psi is 22-24 when they put them on, otherwise it will feel like an ice-rink..

Rating for a standard Chimaera front wheel for T1-R is 'V'.
Give your insurer a call if you're concerned, but if they're reasonable and realistic, then they'll say you're ok with them.
BTW - I have found they're excellent tyres - take it easy for a couple of hundred miles, then enjoy!

Because I wanted to stick with Z rated tyres I went for Dunlop SP9000's, seem to be good so far.

My insurance company said that if I fitted anything but the orig speed rated tyres (Z or W) then I would have NO cover whatever the tyre make!If you change the size you must tell them as well. it probably wont change the premium, but they do need to know.

Im ordering toyo proxies of the black circles link on this forum. Delivered to my house £210.32 2 x 245/45/16w. Cost me £5 to £7 each for fitting.

Where im getting them fitted quoted me £251 inc fitting.

Saved £26. Better in my pocket than someone elses.

Also demon tweeks price was £255 inc fitting.

Ok, I suppose that realistically a TVR Chimaera wont get up to the max speed rating of 149 MPH that is V but I recall being told by more than one source, the speed rating also makes a difference to the tyre flex and behaviour under loading. So you should only replace like for like (I look forward to being jumped on here ;-) ). Maybe the Toyos have strengthened side walls that make up for the lower rating ? Personally I am sticking with the W's (maybe Eagle F1s when the time comes) - its not a cost issue as a good W and a good V will set you back the same kind of money.

Finally got the search working and found the done to death thread.

Sounds like the T1-S is discontinued so I can't get a replacement for what I've already got and the 205/55 ZR15 88W aren't available with the T1-R range

I'll phone round and see if I can find anyone local still stocking the T1-S. Failing that I'll have to decide whether to run them on V spec or the alternative favourite the Dunlop sp9000 on Z spec.

Thanks. Its the 400, so the baby version, but I love it to bits. I've had it nearly 4 years and I cannot see me selling it.

I got 4x Michelin Pilot Exalto, 205/55/16 and 225/50/15 IIRC, they're good tyres and W-rated. Cost was about £430 inc VAT.
