Fuel sender

After checking my fuel gauge works I removed the sender only to find the tiny conacts inside have broken off. A mate is going to try and see if we can fix it ,as I seem unable to find one for sale. It's an early model with black bezel dials. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new one or any alternative that will work?
