Rear hub nut

[chassis 33]

What size is the rear hub nut bolting the driveshaft into the bearing block? I've tried the 36mm left over from old school Beetle days, but its a fair bit bigger than that :(

Any ideas?

42mm from memory, but its a bit hard to check from where I am.

I just checked it with my micrometer, but the numbers are a bit hard to read, my eyesight isn't what it was. Can you read it from there?

Actually thats something of a lie. It's left over from my dads Beetle days, I've never actually spannered a Beetle, only welded the bloody things!!!

Be very careful. Don't use the drive chain to torque up against because you can easily damage the LSD. Either work through the wheel centre with the wheel on the ground or bolt a long bar to a couple of the lug bolts and rest the other end on the ground so that you don't put energy through the drive shaft. This mistake cost me just short of £1k this year.

Thanks for the advice!!! Shouldnt pose too many problems from that issue, as the upright is now disconnected fromt he car and the drive shaft unbolted from the diff!
