Are "Running Cost" mainly labour?

Been trawling thorugh the previous threads about the costs of running Chimp (I had to put my plans to buy one on hold for the last year or so). There is one question regarding the running cost that seems to make me scratch my head.

In my limited experience I agree - most of the problems that have come up for me have involved a few hours of labour to try and find out whats wrong, usually followed by replacement of the 10p part thats faulty. But I have found that the indies are very reasonable about time taken to diagnose faults so its not a big cost - I have allowed £1000 per year for servicing, fixing faults, tyres and fluids - under budget so far this year* !

I agree, most of the costs are labour, unless something big fails (touch wood). Most Indi's are well below main dealers prices, and a lot do fixed price servicing. The main things for me are the piece of mind knowing that a TVR expert has been looking after my car, and the all important stamps in the book when it comes to selling on.

Called in at a TVR main dealer yesterday to get some parts and was reading the invoices on the desk while they found the parts. 1 hour's labour to replace the battery @ £75/hr +VAT. The battery wasn't cheap either.
OK Chim batteries are a git compared to most, but at that labour rate it all mounts up pretty damn quickly!!
