Hi all,

I am debating the best place to put my oil cooler for my Wildcat Chimaera. I have a 25 row cooler. Probably overkill, but I will be running a thermostat, no worries about over cooling.

Where do folks usual install their coolers. The options are:

Directly infront of the radiator, but that blocks the rad somewhat.

Either side of the rad. I guess I'd need to cut vents in the wheel arches to stop air stagnating in the wings. On the LHS, it would be in the path of air to the heater, so it'd have to be on the RHS, but then I'd have to move the windcreen washer bottle.

Cut vents at the bottom of the nose cone, and mount the cooler horizontally? Do I understand correctly that this was the spec of cars that were exported to Japan and Malaysia?

Just wondered what other folks have done?

Yes you’re correct. The story goes, the vents were indeed something the Malaysian's added for oil coolers, many of the bodies then returned to the U.K. when that operation failed and were used on later cars.
I’d def use that idea over placing it in front of the rad.

My doubts about this route is whether sufficient air will flow through the cooler if mounted horizontally.

Will high pressure air in the nose cone cause it to flow out through the cooler? Or will it be the slight pointy uppy ness of the bottom of the nose cone is sufficient to force air in?

I made up brackets and mounted my oil cooler behind the radiator fans so has forced airflow when the coolant fans are running as well as normal airflow without.
As coolant temperature is lower than that of oil there is a cooling effect especially with a decent sized oil cooler without over cooling worries
