Slightly concerned?

Picture the scene, a Mondeo ST220, followed by me in my 4.0 Chimaera and then a Lotus Elan SE plunge downhill torwards a tight mini roundabout. Its pretty unsighted so we approach with caution as traffic does not have a good view of us approaching - past the mini roundabout though is a half mile long straight thats very wide.
Mondeo man jinks left and right and nails it. I do likewise (am trying to impress my 12 year old cousin whose first time this is in a TVR and has taken a liking to Porsches) perhaps not nailing until i am dead straight, no idea what Lotus bloke is doing behind and can't really see as I have the roof down.
ST220 is pacy but not quick enough for me to pass him halfway down the straight :D, I'm feeling pretty pleased that the Fast Ford has been dispatched so easily.
So I glance in my mirrors and instead of it being full of Blue Mondeo its full on Red Lotus.
OK so he was never going to get past and wasn't gaining, but I wasn't exactly losing him either.
I guess been a turbo it was probably chipped and I did have the hood down (he didn't) and I was carrying a passenger (a strapping lad who looks more like 16) but still I was a little disappointed.

Thoughts? (I know get a 5 litre :D)

hello,i dont understand your dissapointment........those turbo lotus things are quite quick and he didnt overtake you.i too have a 4.0 and would like to test a 5.0 sometime to see the difference as i dont find my car is rapid enough to scare me

OK sounds like I have nothing to worry about - to be honest the car feels quick and Austec rolling road has shown no problems

oh and yes the Mondeo was trying very very hard, judging by the look of the drivers face as I went by.

TED was a measurement done by Performance Car magazine. Maybe EVO (started by lots of ex-PC folk) should re-introduce this stat?

Autocar measured 30-70 through gears (Sagaris is the Daddy) and 50-70 in top gear (or kickdown for an automatic).

PH'er Blipi has a chipped, red Elan. Sure it wasn't a lady chasing you? IIRC Blipi's Chim is 4.0 so she's your girl for asking about the difference.

Worryingly that looks exactly like it! Though if it was a lady chasing me I would have backed off and let her catch me
