Im possibly looking to sell my car depending on what im likely to get for it, so i was just looking for opinions from people who have recently brought/sold who can advise. Got a fair bit of time and money invested in it so if its not worth enough il probably keep it and sell something else, as i have a few cars and looking to raise funds for a house move.
Its a low mileage 5.0 with a heavily upgraded v8d engine, 360hp at joolz’s, has some other nice upgrades like nitron shocks and ap brakes, paint is immaculate after a recent full respray, interior very good, chassis is good and original. It’s unfortunately cat d from many years ago, no signs of anything at all that looks to have been repaired.

Yes appreciate that cat cars are not for everyone, but what are the chances of a 30 year old performance car being damaged and not recorded during its life? Pretty high in my opinion, and in most cases you cant possibly know the full history of a car over that time.
Insurers have always been wary of repairing tvr’s due to most of their approved repairers not being able to repair fibreglass and parts availability issues.
They would probably write one off for 50% of its value.

Sounds like a good one. The 500 will stand it in good stead. People would pay more for a ropey 500 than an immaculate 400 it seems.
I recently sold mine after getting sick of looking at it. MOT had expired. I put it up for £7k no offers.
That was a mistake but it did sell in 2 days. Although I could have slapped the guy who actually bought it when he tried to chip me down further.
I'd guess that in the region of £14k might be the right ballpark.

Personally I would never buy a Cat 'D' car, purely on the fact that an insurance company has paid for it to scrapped once
.
I hear this a lot and it's easy to understand
.Some people want to believe the car they're buying is perfect or great or whatever similar words you prefer
But a car is just a car
A collection of bits and pieces put together to perform a task
If all the bits and pieces are all there and working properly it will still perform that function
Assuming that function is getting you from A to B
If you want your car to perform some emotional task like make you feel good about your life and yourself in general and all your life choices then that's a different ask
I regularly watch Matt Armstrong videos and a lot of my friends do too but there are a lot of people who watch them and would still consider buying a car which has been repaired as unimaginable
Yes I own a car which was written off and then repaired and I did as many of the repairs as I could myself but then contracted professionals where necessary
And one or two of my friends while they appreciate the effort still believe the car is tainted for whatever reason and I don't try to change their view because I know its illogical but it's an emotional reaction which is never going to change based on a logical argument
People like what they like and they dislike what they dislike
That's about it I guess
Either you understand a car can be repaired and still perform some or all of its functions or you believe a bit of damage makes the car doomed
Few pics of my POS in various states of repair
