Boot Stuck..Sods Law!

Hi peeps.. its been a while!

I hope everyone is enjoying this freakish weather we are having of late.. I certainly WAS!!!

I took any opportunity to squeeze the last bit of Summer we had out of 2005.. with any excuse to take the beauty out with the top down... it was all going swimmingly well..UNTIL.. the boot did not open when I went to quench the beasts thurst at the nearest Optimax St (yes she was totally dehydrated.. doh!).. also to put more petrol on the fire (no pun intended) the Roof was also in the boot..and it started to CHUCK it down... AGHHHH!!!

I had to call the RAC as it was Sunday (yes I was desperate) as Im not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to electrics.. and there was 12v coming out of the switch ..so that looked ok (sorry its a 99 Chim with a button to open boot).. so im totally confused??

I managed to get it in the garage.. where is is currently drying off!

Can anyone help with this one?? Is there a simple answer??

PS - I noticed another button down there.. to the left of the steering wheel which is alot like the boot switch however this one stays pressed and presses off..anyone have an idea of what that button is???

The other button, turns on and off the dash lights!

I'm sure someone will pm you the instructions to get in to the boot soon...

OHHH.. Thanks Rich! I have had the motor for 2 years and ive just noticed that button now..haha



Looking forward to finding out more about the mysterious Chim and the secret of the 'manual boot opening'!

Sometimes the solenoid part of the switch works (you can here it click) but the mechanical part is in need of lubrication, so doesn't come undone.

There is a way into the boot, and somebody who knows you better will doubtless mail you.

Its weird..as sometimes it takes a few pushes of the button before it opens.. but this time to no avail?

..it did happen once before.. I tried earlier in the day.. with no luck.. but when I tried in the afternoon it popped up no probs! has this car got a mind of its own..

In the first instance I suggest you talk to your local garage.

Your really gonna need some more mileage on PH before owners divulge info of that nature. If your really in the sh!t then mail me.

...so have you tried some WD40 on the release mechanism, wibble it back & forth with your finger, shut it, & I bet it'll work....

YES!! im in the boot.. was a bit fiddly but got there in the end.. I can now see why you needed to know me better

..I tried the WD-40 on the lock mechanism.. but that didnt seem to work.. I think the solanoid may have packed up as from past performance it looks like it was on the way out.. hence 5 times to push to get it to open!..

..is this an expensive job to repair??

No - it's a Mondeo solenoid if I recall correctly - not sure which year though...
