v8 upgrade vs tamora

HELP, i have not slept in days.I can't decide if i should spend money at TVR power for a Taraka+ upgrade on my Chim 5L and some nitrons or use the money to change over to a Tamora. I love the character of the 5L but the car is not getting any younger has anybody moved over to the speed six tamora from a chim.
the tamora is the bargain modern tvr so that's a good choice .. however I've driven a tvr power modded griff 500 and it was ballistic .. so i guess I've not really helped much have i!?
I think it would come down to how good the current chim is .. if it's a beautiful car then I'd keep it and spend the money at tvr power on the taraka upgrade, I don't think sensible upgrades come much better (have you considered the supercharger upgrade they now offer though?? looks beautifully engineered).
If your chim isn't a car you want to keep change for the tamora.

I have always had a love hate relationship with my TVR's this is my 5th Chim, every time i change them for something else (F355,NSX,Elise) but i keep coming back. My car is not it too bad a shape, so i think i will take it to TVR power and ask them what it will cost to put everything into good shape on top of the engine mod and see what it will cost, compared to a decent secondhand Tamora. I am not really bothered about all the speed six scaremongering as i beleive if you treat the engine well there should not be too many problems i am on my 5th TVR and have never had a single problem except a faulty alterntor!!!
Slight problem on the driving front, in that i live in france and it is not that easy for me to come back to the uk. So when i do it will either be to get my 5L rebuilt or to trade it in for a Tam. My main concern with the Tam is a lack of low down GRUNT and will i miss the V8 soundtrack? Has anyone acutually done a swap from V8 to Tam.

That might be your answer actually. The speed 6 really is a special bit of kit and personally, I'd want it serviced within the dealer network and preferably at Power. Depends how much mileage you do I guess.
There is now a TVR importer based in Nice as i live in Lyon it is only a few hours drive but if the car is broken then it means an expensive trailer ride!

Any further news on the Superchargers that power are supposed to be developing? I'm considering selling mine but another option is to keep it and supercharge it instead!

Early next year is the current ETA, and more than purely bhp increases will be on offer - to keep the cars balanced!
try the suspension upgrade first...
It's amazing how much extra 'power' extra 'torque' you find you have when you have the suspension /dampers set up properly to actually get that power/torque to the road properly

Mark, I am also 2 hours away from my dealer here in the UK. I have bought a Tamora in the knowledge that they are 2 hours away, I wouldn't worry too much about the distance particularly if you have breakdown cover.
ok i have taken the plunge and have taken my 5L to TVR power for a Taraka upgrade and some nitrons.After talking to the lads there i have decided to keep the exhaust standard apart from taking out the
pre-cats as they say it runs better with the main cat still in place.
I will update in around 4 weeks time when i go and pick her up.
Fingers crossed that i have not just wasted a lot of money!!!

Compliment you on the decision -- I was no 5 and its still
a wallop and a half every time I'm out in her. I did have one settling in
thing and Jamie (at TVR Power) was really excellent - letting me get it
fixed by a 3rd party (not TVR at all) after he had spoken with him -
so with the TVR garage in Nice will mean you are in good hands.

fair play to u, i'm in the same boat, sell for a speed six or spend on the 5ltr, hope it turns out to be the dogs bo**cks, i always wonder if spending money on something u may have lost hart on is the way forward or just a lost cause, email me when u get it back and let me no wot u think because i'm still tempted. getting the shocks done as well is going to be the icing on the cake!

Think you have made the right choice !! I went from Chim to Tuscan, and have just gone back again! There's no question that the Tuscan looks and goes brilliantly, but the Chim is so much more useable, still looks, goes and sounds fantastic, and the extra money I made keeps the wife happy too !!
I'd much rather take the Chim out for a run knowing that if I had an issue I could afford to fix it, rather than the Tuscan which would have meant a second mortgage!

My car is now ready to be picked up from TVR power, i had a £10000 budget to trade up form my chimaera to a tamora but as i do not like the characteristics of the speed six i have spent £5000 on an engine upgrade, nitron shocks and willwood brakes. I pick her up on friday next week and then drive back to france so we shall see if it was money well spent.

Sorry - joing this a bit late but.....I went from Chimaera to Tuscan a couple of years ago - and have recently gone back to a Chim - and haven't regretted it one bit.
I haven't driven a Tamora - been a passenger once, but I guess the performance etc is pretty similar to the Tuscan .
While the Speed 6 ultimately gives more power, there's not many opportunities to use it where I live. I find the Chim so much easier to live with, it has more than enough grunt to pass just about anything you want to, and of course the sound track can't be bettered.
Personally I would say you have made the right choice - I know there's lots of concern over Chim reliability posted on here...but as I said, this is my second, and so far I've never had any real problems....gulp!
The Tuscan never let me down either...oh apart from when the engine went pop - and it went back to Blackpool for weeks on end!!
