Front Brake Pads

Looking to source new front pads this week. Wondered what people were generally running as normal road pads?

Would appreciate any part numbers (Ferodo, Ford, Mintex) to cross-refer.

Part numbers on the cost breakdown on my profile for black diamond predator pads. I fitted these f & r plus the 12 groove discs about 4 months ago. Stopping power is awesome.

..I have used "Green stuff" pads in my previous car. Found them to be very good.

I found Mintex pads leaving exessive brake dust o the wheels,some of it was hard to remove (almost like the particals were so hot they melted into the wheel finish. With the "Green stuff" all brake dust was removed very easly with just washing.

I`ve just had green stuff pads fitted to mine, driven about 500 miles on them. Seem good so far.

Green Stuff here as well. I've been assured that previous concerns re high disc wear with these pads have been resolved with the latest friction material.

does anyone have the ebc greenstuff (front) part nos for a 99 Chim 4.0? I've seen many different numbers in the archive DP2473 or DP2415?

I'm just about to fit EBC Redstuff (labelled ceramic) pads all round. The non-ceramic labelled redstuff pads are more geared towards track use apparently. EBC now recommend the redstuff (ceramic) pads for TVR for fast road use. No doubt the greenstuff pads are fine, but they are not recommended by EBC.

I have redstuff all round with Black Diamond drilled and grooved disks. Excellent stopping power when warm - when cold you need to allow a little more room or just push the pedal harder....

I have tried the online catalogues but there's no Chimaera 4.0 99 option - searching against 4.5 97- (the only facelift model listed) comes up with DP 2415. The Griff listing is DP2473. Series 2 Escort RS Turbo 1.6 listed as DP 26055/2.

I have the larger (260mm) grooved/drilled discs - maybe it would be easier to remove the pads and draw outline and fax to confirm right pad.

Adam - you've just fitted some greenstuff to same year Chim, can you recall the part number or still have box or invoice ?

I have the same car as you, same year same engine size.
are the discs standard size?
I had new green stuff pads fitted last week,
I could have a look tonight to see if there is a visible part number if you want.

The discs are the standard TVR grooved/drilled discs (260mm) as fitted to facelift model Chims.

pads fitted last week are,

ECB Green stuff
90R-10139/452
AP44/7820042605/2

My discs are 260mm dia but not grooved / drilled.

Of those of you who use Greenstuff I expect you don't hammer your brakes too often. I think they are ok for pootling about in but take them trackside and they will disappoint. I got severe fade in them after heavy braking and changed back to tried tested and trusted Ferodo DS2500. Awesome pad and although there is dust you won't mind as you will be too busy wiping your face print off the inside of the windscreen...

Maybe they've changed the formula, but when I used to run Greenstuff I found they worked very very well when they were hot (the hotter they got the grippier they got) but when hot they wore the discs down very quickly. A set of discs might only last a single track day using Greenstuff pads, normally they would outlast four or five sets of pads with other compounds.

Ive got these fitted, excellent pad, just need to get them warm before testing their ultimate stopping power!

Dust? yes, but nothing a good alloy wheel protecting cream carnt handle.

Another vote for DS2500. My experience is that the DS2500 works sooo much better on road - I found the Greenstuff dangerous on cold days. On track I found both excellent although Greenstuff did eat my discs. DS2500s are almost twice the price tho' but IMHO you get what you pay for in this case.
