This morning I wrote off my Chim. Had it three months and been driving it so carefully.

Hit some invisible water in the dark about 7am on the A52 near Clifton, Nottingham. Spun it down a slip road and under a bridge and into the wall with my back end.

I am lucky I only have cuts and bruises. Just thought I'd let you all know, take care as the nights draw in and the rain comes down, it really caught me off guard.

Glad you're OK!

I was driving through floods in Ravenshead this morning in my trusty Golf. It actually crossed my mind how glad I was not to be in the Chimaera, and how "full timers" were progressing.

Jeez, bad luck mate. Hope you're OK.

I've been caught out myself, but I was a bit luckier.

Take care out there peeps, you're driving skateboards with V8's.

Definitely written off?

Words of advice - get yourself to where its being stored, and rip off anything cosmetic that you can flog later on Ebay.

Sorry to hear that - hope you can get a decent amount back on the insurance to get another one soon!

Hit some water myself this morning - easily done with these dark mornings

As a mainly weekend and fair weather driver, you are not giving me a great deal of confidence to change my current habits.
You make it sound as though if you hit any standing water in a chim, you are likley to start flying around the countryside taking parts of the scenery and potentially other road users with you.
Is it really that bad or do you have to be doing something that you shouldn't in these sorts of weather conditions for this to happen.
Some advice from everyday drivers would be appreciated.

**touches wood**

Covered 30,000 miles per annum for several years, with only a few scary moments, but no impact.

Wide wheels, big power, light car: receipe for some bother if not totally focussed.

For some reason, my 95 4.0l was far worse than my later 4.5 & 5.0l. (I suspect the RE71 tyres had something to do with it)

Crikey, sorry to hear that mate. The main thing is you're ok. I'm also in Nottingham - which bit of the A52 was it?

I had to go to Ansty (nr Coventry) this morning and I felt I'd 'wimped out' by tip-toe'ing to the office in my Chim and picking up a pool car for the run down the M1/M69. Yours is a lesson to all of us that use them as daily drivers!

Nobody likes to hear this.
As fellow owners we all know how much it means to you.
I am glad you are ok, and after all this is why we pay for insurance, hopefully we will hear from you soon and be reading about your newly purchased chim.
Best wishes

Ed.

Nick Chim, you werent visiting RR Ansty by any chance? Just interested, there is a distinct lack of TVR's in our car park, bit dull really...

mark,

sorry to hear about the accident. glad you are ok though. it's scary when you can't do anything about it and you pass the point of no return. it can just appear out of nowhere and there's sod all you can do. stay safe out there. hope it doesn't numb your enthusiasm for tvr and you get another one soon.

a general word of advice to us all weather drivers. careful with acceleration, braking and down changes! heel and toe is important in the wet. also, check those tires. i was driving with tyres that i thought were ok. closer inspection showed low / non existant tread around the centre of the tire .

hit some standing water in fast lane of motorway and no hint of aquaplaning since new tires. still always hold my breath though...

As an everyday driver (only car), my advice when aquaplaning, would be to immediately pull both feet back from the pedals- allowing the revs to die without braking.

If this leaves the car stalling in a puddle, so what- just press the emergency light button.

I've always been cautious when diving the TVR through heavy rain as the air intake is so low down.

Anyway, bad luck mate - my post doesn't really help as you didn't see that standing water!

PS- I agree with Si (Simon) in that tyres can play a big factor in situations like this.

Bad luck but I am very glad you are OK! Everyone has been caught out esp on roads where the surface changes suddenly. I have an everyday car but end up using the Chim most days so had my share of slide catching to do sometimes when you don't expect it, just bad luck!
What's the damage on the car?

sorry to hear about the accident.
good job your o.k (apart from the cuts and bruises)
just thinking i'm glad i didn't read this last night as untill yesterday evening i've only been a fair weather driver in my chim (only had it 2 months) but found the experience o.k (although did drive like a learner most of the time)

You guys are the best, thanks for cheering me up, just what I needed.

NickChim it was eastbound just after Clifton Bridge where the road splits and bends right under the bridge for Clifton and A453. I was actually in the right-most of the left hand two lanes to stay on the A52 but the thing just took me, went over the start of the barrier and spinning down under the bridge. Wasn't going too fast around 60 I thought, but obviously it was enough.
