New Owner - help please???

Morning All....
I have just collected my lovely new (to me) Chimaera....I wonder if anyone can help??
On the steering column - behind the key and immobiliser slots, there is a shiney black circular button about an inch in diameter, and I'm wondering what it is? I'm itching to push it - but have no idea what it is for, and can't find mention in the handbook.

Hiya and welcome to the gang!!
The button above your right knee on the underside of the steering column is the boot release button (at least it is on mine - '98 450). The button on the other side is to switch on or off the illumination for the speedo etc (when the lights are on).

Sounds like a non-standard switch (will check mine on next ciggy break.)
At a guess, if non-standard then it's most likely a radiator fan overide switch.(i.e. you can switch the radiator fans on before the temp switch does it for you). Lots of cars have this as it gives peace of mind especially in town traffic.
...Oh and welcome to the fold.
Watch out for over enthusiam with the loud pedal tho - if you're not used to the rear wheel power then its twitchy back end territory for the next few months on the wet roads.
Had mine a year and a half and, Gaffer will tell you, my rear wheels were dancing all over the place at a set of lights recently. Easy to be caught out.

I had fun when that was first discovered...
Had let a charming young lady drive me to Harrods with the roof down, and then asked her to pop the trunk so that I could put the roof back on. Needless to say, she couldn't find it (the button) and pressed many random buttons before I was forced to reach over (no knee stroking, obviously!) to press the necessary button.
I then drove us home later, but was perturbed to discover a warming sensation in the trouser department. All very well, but it didn't dissipate, and I thought I'd wet myself!
Cue random button pressing, and then pulling over in busy traffic to leap out of the car in pain....
