Baby seat in a chim???

OK now i know i am going to get slated for this and expect the comments 'get yourself a eurobox' or 'buy a cerb' to appear quite frequently...BUT...is it possible to mount a baby seat / cot in a chim...has anyone tried it....or do i go the other option and split up with the misses and pay CSA payments, at least that way there wil be no problem in me keeping the chim as there will only be me in it!!!

You can mount a baby seat in the Chimaera and put your wife in the car, but there won't be any room left for you though!

This is one of my hobby-horses, and I'm afraid its time to get a 'proper car', at least for transporting the family around. (Proper Car = one designed with more than 2 seats!)

How about modifyling boot space, putting in some of those balls you can get and make a high speed ball pit...!!!

There must be a way of fitting three in a chim...a baby is only small!!!

Of course...move the battery to the boot, creating ample space in the footwell!!!

I put a standard baby seat (0-9mths) in my Griff, it fits fine!

I was thinking more of Me + Wife + Baby...but i dont think putting kid on the shelf behind the seats is an option...!!!

Chimaera is a 2 seater car, on the V5, for insurance purposes and in the eyes of our friends in blue. You CANNOT for the last 2 reasons especially, mount a baby seat/ cot on the "parcel shelf". I have seen it done, but it ain't legal, the insurance company won't pay out, and it ain't safe either.

what about strapping it to the roof...unless its sunny of course!!!i put mine on my lap,nothing like gettin em used to driving from an early age i say.

Hello Andy,

It is possible, and easy and safe. Our buggy system was from
bebe confort and they produced a flat carry cot (can't remember the name) that was designed as a car carrier
-- has an inbuilt chest strap to hold her/him in flat.
In standard cars the cot is designed to be fixed to the rear belts. What we did was attach 4 D-rings to the shelf area and then with compressions straps, strap it up tight.

sounds good....at least i now have a good reason to keep the chim...not that it was going anywhere anyway!!!!!!

should be pretty safe with the D rings, but even so, I believe L'il Pugs is right on the money with the insurance problem - been raised here before......

If the D rings are bolted through the GRP shelf then they are far from safe as the GRP is not very thick.

Basically as said before this is a non-starter, The car is for two people not 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 or whatever proportion a baby constitutes.

Agreed. It sounds pretty irresponsible to me.

Just trade up to a cerb. Its the only way to travel legally and safely in a TVR with a baby.

I think it may ne OK to mount a baby seat/cot or similar on the back shelf. This was your query. What you won't be able to do is put a baby in it!

The ONLY answer is to hire a baby sitter. Don't sell the Chim!
