What are peoples general thoughts on these, I know they make good power on the rollers from experience, but what else should one look for?

Cheers,

Charlie.

What you have to consider here is that you will only get a '93 or '94 model. When I was looking for a Chim (may have considered a Griff) I specifically wanted a 4.3 and didn't look at any 4.0. I had come from a limited edition 4.0L Wedge so wanted a bit more grunt and something equally 'special'. My price range at the time included 4.0; 4.0 HC; 4.3 but 4.5 were just out of reach. If I was looking fresh today I would probably go for 4.5 if I could afford it. The 4.3 reason is just rarity now. As a car they are all the same, no particular oddities to look out for.

The 5.0L ones however, are a bit different -

Really there is nothing wrong with the 4.0 When I was buying my last one I could have stretched to a 4.5 or probably a 5.0 but they all come in exactly the same shiney wrapper ...so second time around I bought another 4.0.

Speak to Mark as most of the 4.3's I've seen do generally make similar nuimbers out of the box to most standard 500's.
I look at it as a grown up 400 pre-cat you get all of the advantages of the free revving and noise but not he ultimate upgradeabilty of the 5 IMHO.

My 4.3 is for sale.

Mark Adams mapped it last year. Can't remember the exact numbers but it was around 240 I think. We ran out of time as I was going to Iraq the next day (not in the TVR!) and there was more to come according to the great man. It seems to rev very well compared to other RV8 powered TVRs I have driven/been scared in.

Will dig out figures tomorrow if you're interested.

Did I mention its for sale.... Excellent chassis. Any inspection on a ramp welcome.

Cheers

Had 4.3 Chim before the tuscan I bought it after looking & driving loads of cars it was by far the smoothest & quickest of the bunch & this included 2 500's. As always advised on here look around & drive a few you will notice the difference when you find a good one.

Howard.

P.S In 2 years of ownership the only expense was a replacement battery.

Have owned a 4ltr, 5ltrHC, currently have a 4.3.

I found performance wise 4ltr very good, 5ltr & 4.3 very very very good! 5ltr & 4.3 seem very much alike, 4.3 a bit smoother a low revs.

N.B. Every one in its own right was the mutts nuts

Yes it was, cannot find the report printout from when I bought it but 90% sure it was listed as a C. I have the full breakdown bill for the repair from TVR Centre so you could see what was done.

Been good for me for 2 years but it's living outside now since I converted my garage into a living room!!! All part of the cunning plan to convince wife I would now be needing a Cerb.

I have a 4.3 85k on the clock this has run really well for the time that I have had it (he said touching some wood), always there or there abouts with 500's, spins up really well, drives smoothly, burns no oil..etc etc...ran well to and from Le Mans (another story)

I was looking at various options to up spec this and at one point was pretty much committed to going the 500 route (as Mr Guillotine will confirm...sorry to have wasted your time!), but after speaking with a number of folk who built these engines was advised to stick with what I have got on the basis of VFM.

So I modified the plenum with a larger throttle body, fitted a thermal plate and shortened the trumpets as a starting point.

Now I am in the middle of a body off, budget allowing I fully intend to get the engine developed into a nice 4.3BV...

God knows what BHP/torque, doesn't matter it is how it drives and how well it goes that matters to me.
