Evening all,

Have just agreed a price for my Cerbera today so looks like it will be gone by the weekend

Now need to replace it with a good Chimaera

So, looking for a 1997-2000 450 or 500. Not incredibly fussy about colour but ideally blue, and no red ones - sorry! Must be well looked after, and preferably located in the SE.

Please get in touch if you have something that fits the bill. Won't be around much next week so don't worry if I don't get back to you for a few days.

Cheers,

Neil.

Do you want to by private or trade?

Hope you find one soon, life is too short to be without a TVR. OH

Go for the 500, else you'll be forever wondering, what if?

Don't really mind so long as it's a good car at the right price.

I have a Griff 500 and would suggest that you drive examples of both the 450 and 500 Chimaera. Despite having a 500 Griff I personally prefer the 450 Chimaera. You feel as if you can get away with more in a 450, they are easier to engage with, more rewarding to drive (it does not seem so hard to get it right), the 450 engine seems smoother and quieter than the 500. The 450 Chimaera has more than enough power and torque...lovely car and perhaps one of the most sorted TVR has ever built?

Rob Ingleby just inspected a lovely 450 Chimaera for a friend...we are picking the car up on Saturday! There are some nice cars & nasty cars out there, there are some very inexpensive cars too...loads around so you can afford to be very choosy!

Good luck with the search!

Take a trip up to Fernhurst's and try a few out.

On a first time basis warranty may waylay some of your fears, it did when I brought my TVR’s.

Talk to Drew he's a very nice man. OH

you little lurkers!

Hi There,

Ive got a Chim 450 and love it.. Best car ive ever owned..(or driven) (ive had a few gooduns like an M5 etc). One thing i think is more obvious with TVR's than most other Marquees is that every car can feel very different from the last.
But you probably know that with your Cerb.
Try a few and one will just feel right.(a 450 or 500)

People keep trying to tempt me with a Tuscan etc and to be honest ive not driven one yet but its gonna have to be pretty special to give me a bigger grin than my Chim.

Well thats my 5 penneth worth..

(oh and be careful the weather doesnt look like its gonna be good road-testing weather!)

I have talked to Drew a couple of times before and he does seem like a nice chap. Test drove a Tuscan and a Chim at Fernhurst before settling on a Cerb. Will go up there and try out a 450 and 500 in a couple of weeks if possible.

Thanks for the opinions guys, and thanks to all those who have been emailing - I'll get back to you when I return from sunning myself in Barbados

As Toffer and Fire 99 say,the Chimaera 450 is a VERY pleasant car,not quite so 'on the edge'as the 500,I've driven just two (Smokin Barrels and others on here have driven many more) what surprised me on first acquaintance was the lack of 'kit car' feel. The 450 engine is smooth but very torquey, apparently not too'ed about with'by TVR !!
As you're probably aware, the engine size on Chims is probably less relevant than choosing a specimen, properly mantained car..be lucky !

Interesting. Would you consider selling the 500 for buying a 450 though ?

For heavens sake, get a 500! Specially if you are coming from something as rapid as a Cerb

I drove 2 450s, and 3 500s. If you spend a few extra quid on a Mark Adams Chip to give the 500 better low speed manners, you will not regret it.

Dont buy a tent.
