Fuel regulator vacuum pipe - where does it go?

Question as topic - I just found the vac pipe from the fuel pressure regulator is not connected to anything! Not sure if it has just come off or if it had been like this for a while - in which case could have something to do with my 14mpg! I assume it goes to somewhere on the plenum chamber?

I think that goes to a little spigot at the rear of the stepper motor,i think

Yep your right! Just found it before I saw your post. Seems to run a bit better now, probably due more to the fact there's not an air leak into the plenum!

Not sure how long this has been disconnected - suppose i'll have to see if I get any improvements in mpg.

Also - on another note- I had a slight missfire on the way back home from work. Upon inspecting under the bonnet the offside exaust was glowing dull red!- obviously the cat overheating due to the missfire - turned out to be one of the ignition leads was resting on the exhaust! Hopefully this hasn't damaged the cat too much! Seems OK now.

When the engine is idling i've also noticed the ocassional 'cracking' sound - sounds like a spark. I'm wondering if the ignition leads are breaking down? Or perhaps the dizzy cap?

If "cracking" can be interpreted as "spitting" or "ticking" it could be an exhaust manifold gasket.

No sounds more like a 'spark' if you know what I mean! Only happens once in a while - say every 10 - 20 seconds or so.

Your nylon underpants may be causing static if you are rubbing against a plastic car.

Try and have a look under the bonnet in the dark, you will be amazed what you can see flying around under there in the pitch black.

Yes, you right! Just before I read you post I took a quick look at things in the dark, and noticed sparks coming from the earth connection on the NS rear of the engine block! See here:
