I am looking to get my exhaust sorted very soon (more noise needed)
i'll be phoning Austec some time this week but i am not sure which option to go for and was wondering if any of you nice people could share with me the sound of your exhausts and info (what, where & how much) i have heard the mention of cherry bombs, sleeves, straight through etc etc but i would like to know what the different sounds/results are.
I have a 1999 4.0 chim.
thanks in advance.
Glyn.

I'm very pleased with the cherry bomb conversion that Offord carried out for me. I've measured the sound level at 120dB @ 6000 rpm. That may be too much for some!

If youre coming to the meet on Monday night I can show you an example or two of Austecs work - including my car

Hope to see you there

What does the cherry bomb conversion entail?

The top of the silencer box is cut open and the perforated tubes replaced with 'cherry bombs'. You would have to ask Offord's what they are. The finished job looks just like a standard exhaust except for the new welding where the silencer is closed back up. You have to remove the exhaust to spot the difference.

Do you still have the cats in?

Yes the cats are still in so no problems with the MOT. I always lift off gently if I see plod though. Lifting off suddenly gives a double bang 'sonic boom' effect!

What was the cost of having this done (if you don't mind me asking)
How long did it take.
what is the overall difference in sound/pops and bangs

The cherry bomb conversion added about £150 to the cost my service and was carried out on the same day. Email me through my profile if you would like to know what I think about their servicing.
Overall, I'd say the sound is similar to my old Wedge with its sports exhaust. It is not intrusive at cruising speeds though.
Pops and bangs generally have to be provoked. Full throttle, 4000rpm, then lift off: BA-BOOM Bom Bom!

Just my personal opinion but after compairing Cherry Bombs to a straight through (the perforated inner lining is replaced with solid ones or something) I prefer the straight through. It was slightly deeper and popped and cracked even when cold!

I was also informed that the bombs take a few months to fully bed in. Since my comparison at BTaP was with a newly bombed Chim it may have not been the best to compare with.

Both conversions make fantastic noise so I can recommend both. When Tivi is out of hospital she will have her pipes played with too!

Mmmmmmmm.... noise!

You never heard my fully decatted straight through conversion did you, the only pisstaking that did was when it was laughing at little old ladies after it had just robbed them of their pension on a Tuesday

This could possibly be the route i take. someone posted a before and after straight through last week or the week before and it sounded awesome.

I have a straight through on mine. Alot louder than standard and still get great pops and bangs without having to hammer it.

On long cruises at motorway speeds it can get a bit loud but turn up the tunes and all is peachy.

Either way, im sure you wont be disappointed!!!
