Do a search few post on this, think you'll find that yes you can but it's not cheap IIRC about 2K, far better to upgrade on next car with it fitted already.

can be done... but as Al says, it's not a cheap option.

It's pretty easy to do on a newer Chim, over the years we've done 4 or 5 cars. David Gerald actually advertise that they'll do it for £1500 plus VAT. And I think Joospeed did a Citroen AX PAS kit that fitted.

Douglas Valley breakers will do the job lot including bolts, pipes from a writen off car for around 600 quid. Bit of a wait for the right car but a lot cheaper if you can get it fitted. Steve.

Phil (wixer) retro fitted it to his Griff ('95 I think) for quote a bit less than a grand. Do a serach in the Griff forum.

I looked into doing this with my old Chimaera, initially planning to use a rack out of a Saxo (electric rather than pump driven) then went through a few other thoughts before finally deciding that it really wasn't worth it as the steering isn't actually that heavy... whats the motivation for the change?

Cheers,
Matt

More of a what if situation rather than actually needed.
Wife on insurance but not sure if she can handle the heavy steering compared to PAS.Is the drive as good with PAS??

Anyone know what the ratio is when fitting this rack?

Emotive question.. queue debate personally I'm a bit mixed on this... I'd say slightly no, but very handy for parking I guess. My wife (petite 5'2" can drive our non pas with no problem.. she strggles more with getting the handbrake on properly

Cheers,
Matt

The conversion at joospeed had teh std power rack from a chim/griff but pressured from an electric pump from a citroen saxo. It's the same pump fitted to the tvr tamora / t350 etc so it looks like a genuine tvr part which is quite neat, lol.

The electric conversion was for pre-serps cars where getting an engine driven pump is difficult, on serps cars by far the easiest option is to get everything off a PAS car from douglas valley.

Fitting the electric pump on a chim is relatively easy , but on griffs is a nightmare because of the radiator sloping back into the area you really want to use for the pump.. a boot mounted pump was a possibility at one point cos the space / heat issue was a bit concerning, but it worked in teh end

Converted my Griff to PAS over the summer with an electric pump from a Citroen Saxo/Peugeot 106. You need the pump that doesn't have the filler/reservoir as part of the pump, as this won't package in the engine bay on a Griff. I knocked up some brackets and suspended the pump over the radiator. Wiring and plumbing is straight forward aswell. All in, the conversion cost around £450-500, including buying the rack but that was an absolute bargain at £140 !!

We were gonna do this on a LHD Chevy Chim conversion but wimped out in the end - went the normal route - but good to know it is do-able.

Have a 5ltr Chim with PAS. With day to day driving its OK. Helps when it comes to parking. However it makes track days painful. Very little feedback and some times it feels like when you trun the wheel you have to wait a "week" before the front wheels follow.

Of course YMMV

It started out as a cerbie conversion actually (for cars with sheared PAS drive shafts, engine out job!) .. only afterwards did I think baout using it for non pas chim/griffs
