Had a problem with n/s door not opening properly recently. It works, but very intermittently. Sometimes if i hold it down for a while it works, and other times it doesn't....

Anyway, i got to her this morning, and now the drivers door won't open at all! I tried holding it down in the same way but to no avail. So now when i try to get into the car i have to stand at the passenger door and fiddle under the wing mirror for 4-5 minutes, with no guarantee of getting in, and people thik i'm a thief!

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

I had a badly corroded connector block just behind the speaker in the door. Looks like water was dripping down and collecting *in* the block.

Difficulties opening the doors, particularly on Chimeara's fitted with push button switches under the wing mirrors, is sometime an indication that the battery is on its last legs.

The passenger door gets less use and is stiffer to open , so packs up first. The drivers door which is well used (I hope!) opens more easily but will eventually give problems as the battery fades. If electric windows are noticeably slower then again battery is probably fading away. So suggest you check battery, then connections and earth points and so on.

You might get some temporary relief by liberally squirting WD40 into the door locks and then opening and closing the doors several times to work the lubricant into the mechanism. If door opening is becoming a real issue, then leave a window open enough so that you can reach in the the door opener on the tunnel. Risky if you have to park on the street.

It sounds as though the battery may be going as the windows are slower than they've ever been.

I had this problem on one door (passenger side), about six months ago. I took out the motor assembly that opens the door - I could hear it trying to operate. Plenty of silicone spray into the assembly and it has worked fine since.
