Anyone know how many 4.0 HCs were made?

Not sure on what they claimed for 4.0 (240?) but they usually make 205 vs a 500's 260 (I know someone with on that only made 247 - and a really good one might do 275) so maybe a goo 4.0 or HC might do 220bhp.
Different cam, bit of porting and two additional letters on the plenum badge.
Apparently my lump was used as the test mule to develop the engine/cam for the HC's before it found its way into my car as a customer spec 'gas flowed' V8S.
No it didn't really make more power than any other 4ltr tbh. The only real difference on mine, as the mule, was that I got a fully balanced and sweet revving engine from the factory
(proper balancing was not usually carried out on TVR's post NCK engines AFAIK and could help explain some of the cranks snapping on some lumps).
With a lot more work since then, stage III, 3D mapping and other bits it only now makes the power levels quoted for the original 4HC
.
It's been said a million times before, every TVR is different as is every engine, never pay a premuium for a plenum badge.

As far as i know the hc stands for high lift cam and this was when they started using the tvr 435 cam, however after about trying the cam they put into all the engines they built whether it was a 4.0/4.5 or 500
Except for the engines were they fitted something else e.g. Hybrid 218... Don't you just love TVR !
I thought the 'HC' stood for high compression on the 4.0 litre cars, and they also had the cam and porting mods.
On the 5 litre cars the 'HC' never really meant a lot, because the compression was always 10:1 throughout production. The pre-serp engines had the TVR52 cam,and the serp engines all had the TVR435 cam.The 'HC' badge was finally dropped on the 500 serp engines around '97/'98 year, even though in reality, all the serp engines were all the same. The 500 handbooks change in the specified output from 340bhp/350ftlb to 320/320 roughtly in line with the dropping of the 'HC' badge on the serp engine. The 320bhp engines are still described as 'HC' in the handbook, even though the plenum badge just says '500',unless of course you choose to change it
.
Usual disclaimers apply!

lets put it this way i have probably stripped and built over 400 500 tiv motors they all have 435 cams fitted and all the same cr, i bet my house and my dog ( a very nice german shep by the way!) that a pre serp and serp make the same power on a rolling road/dyno, for the 4 litre ones the cr did vary slightly in the early days form standard 9.35 upto 10.3-1
Rob,it was either Ray or Shaun that told me about the type 52 cams being used on the pre-serp 500's
.It would explain why they feel different to the serp engines,as many have often said on here.Do you reckon thats b
cks then?Placebo possibly?
I'm not after your dog by the way,i'm a cat man myself

i do have a lovely cat as well (winston!) but yes b******s i have yet to come across one in a 500 they were in the early 4.0 and 4.3's dont know why they said that???????

I've seen a couple of 500s that have had the 218 cam that allegedly were original as from TVR. Again I think the policy of needs must comes into the equation more than people think. The early 4 litres were a bit wedgeie in the build as you say. All 4l are good.... but some are better than others.
As for 500 500HC badges and references in handbooks... there is no rhyme or reason to it for the 500s. I've seen more exceptions to the rules than I care to worry about. It is strange that Chim owners often stress the HC while Griff owners don't bother. I suspect it is in the hope of getting more or alternatively making it stand out.
