Larger Fuel Tank

Has anyone ever put an increased capacity fuel tank in a Chim ? Or added a second tank ? I would really like to increase the range on my 450 - As much as I enjoy the appreciative glances and comments when filling up I would rather spend less time doing it.

..shouldn't be that hard to do actaully as the tank is not restrained by any bodywork. If you got one made up that was wider than the existing one front to back, then you'd just loose a bit of bootspace.. you might have to have it non-symetrical top to bottom so you could still fit the roof in though, I reckon that would be your limiting factor.

I was thinking of the same width but maybe two inches deeper , that has to be good for a few gallons more. Have to get my calculator out and see what happens if.... then see how much it costs to have it fabricated. Im guessing its not just a simple tank tho, it has filters and such in, and of course I am going to need some form of float. Need to go find myself a specialist - lots of race companies around these parts so maybe I will visit a few see if they have some ideas.....

Just thought it was worth asking on here of anyone had already done it to save myself the legwork and head scratching !

Not a whole lot , about 6000 but mostly on fairly long runs involving a stop to fill up on the way - and I always find that when I start looking theres no super to be found anywhere or I am in the middle of nowhere wondering if that gauge really means 1/4 or does it mean empty. Have taken to keeping a spare can in the boot but I dont like doing it - gets in the way smells nasty etc.

Putting a larger tank in (and I dont mean monster large just maybe about 10 more litres)seems an obvious upgrade with the limited range.

I guess you fill up about 30 times a year then. A couple of more gallons won't really alter the number of fills, but I understand the notwantingtobreakupthejourney thing.

When you get to my age you'll enjoy the refill stops to perform the human unfill stop.

Agreed, make sure you jet wash out the insides for a very long time. It was not unknown for us to weld repair fuel tanks when I was in the business. But somehow I always managed to get the apprentice to practise his skills
