strange stalling problem

The girlfriend stalled the car reversing out of the carpark from cold on the weekend It was reluctant to restart, and only did so with a fair amount of throttle. Subsequently it would rev and run ok but idle fell away completely - i.e. if you didn't have your foot on the pedal it would die off instantly as if the idle screw was fully closed. It must have stalled 5 or 6 times, when suddenly it restarted and was fine. Used it for the rest of the weekend and no significant problems other than I think the idle is hunting around a little more than normal.

Anyone got any idea what would cause such symptoms?

Mine did that for a while (95 4.0). Cleaned the stepper motor and no problems since. Hope it helps.

My Griff used to be like that from time to time. Once you'd stalled it from cold it was best to go for a twenty minute walk.......

(Pleased to say I only managed it about 3 times over three and a half years - most embarassing was when it was due to pick up a bride to take her to her wedding!! :0 )
