Hi to whoever is reading this
I am searching for my first TVR and have seen a few over the last couple of weeks. I would really appreciate your expert opinion on the deal offered by a TVR main dealer for a 97P Chimaera in Silver, FSH, aircon, full leather, leven accessories and kick plates.
The car is in excellent condition with good tyres and alloys (off 5ltr). Theres no PAS, no tax and 4 months MOT. Apparently as it is an 'approved' used TVR it has had a 200 point check (?) and is in A1 order.
Its screen price is £14995, but is offered for sale to me at £13300....

Oh so much to say but here are a couple of starters...
1.If you are serious about buying make sure it comes with a new MOT , make sure you get a copy of the MOT report and make sure they fix any items of interest that didnt actually cause an MOT fail.
2. Check the service history. Did it get a service every 12 months regardless of mileage or was it every 6000 miles even if it was 18 months between services ? A FSH is only a FSH if this is the case. Otherwise its a collection of expensive stamps that indicate a car that hasnt been cared for.
3. Outriggers and chassis. Check, double check then check again.

If you are serious about buying it, I would highly recommend you get inspected by an Independant Specialist before parting with any cash!

I think I will phone Rob Ingleby tomorrow to find out more about what he does - I need my chimaera to be a 'strong performer'!
The cheapest quote I have had for a 97P is £1330 from an independent broker!! (apparently due top me having a company car). RH Specialist Cars have quoted me £312 for a 94M reg as they are 11 years old... may go down this route?

I agree with vixpy1, seems a bit pricey, especially at this time of year. Buying in the winter should allow you to get a good deal - probably worth looking at some others to get a comparison.
Also, do you know how long they've had it in? TVRs don't like being sat around and if it's been on their fofecourt unused for months there might be some 'issues' around the corner.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that i think the price is about right.This is providing it's in top condition.Its not the earliest car by a long way(k reg would be),and also its a very nice spec,with the a/c and full leather.Also its a good colour combo.Bottom of the range from dealers is usually 9k-10k,and for that you might be looking at a much older green one with no a/c,and the basic interior.The extra few grand suddenly looks like money well spent imho.I've alwys been of the opinion that it's worth paying the extra for something a little less ordinary and to me it sounds very nice.Just make sure it is in top condition.

Cheers for the advice. I'm off away for a few days so will be considering this a great length! The condition did look like new, the only things I remember being 'wrong' were one headlight was obviously new and there was a chip on the driver side rear wing ( top lip next to the boot) where the previous owner had caught it when putting the roof in. They will now put 12mths MOT on it if I buy.....some negotiating still to do - Saturday could be a big day!
Got to agree with mongoose however when buying mine i was told by various dealers that cars with PAS attracted the best prices so i suppose like everything else you pay your money and take your chance. Not wanting to hijack a thread or start a fight i service my car every 6000 miles and certainly don't consider to ''not take care of it'' Just my opinion which is probably worth nowt!!
Although the years MoT should give peace of mind, I would still recommend an inspection. Mine came from a specialist former main dealer with a brand new Mot and service but had a handbrake that didn't work and an illegal rear numberplate! I think the price sounds ok if it is in really good condition.
