Am I right in understanding that the Chimaera has heated wing mirrors. I recently had to stick the mirror glass back on a noticed that the heated element on the glass is actually electrically connected. I think I've read that they are activated automatically for a period after the ignition is turned on. Neither of mine seem to clear the mist that is on them on a cold morning.
Do anyone else's work properly?

good question. i'm not sure if they have em. mines a 95.
anyone know?

i'd guess that they must be some sort of piezo mat. stuff that gets hot or cold when you bang a current through it.

mine's in the garage at night ( it hasn't really been cold enough to notice in the evenings. )

cheers.

Mine's a '99 and it hasn't got heated w/mirrors - or if it does neither of them work! Everything else electrical works fine so I'd be surprised if they both have a fault!

yeah they're heated, when you hit the blower button on the Griff a red light comes on for a bit to tell you they are being heated.....you wouldn't know otherwise

As Apache says, the Griff ones work by turning the blowers on.

However sometimes when the glass gets broken, people replace them with non-heated glass.

Easy way to check if you have the heated elements in the mirrors is to take the mirror glass out:

Angle the glass upwards
Look under the bottom edge for a small black plastic tab
Slide it sideways (left I think?), and the glass will come away. It is stuck to a black plastic ring, but under this is a mat with heated elements on it.

By the way - if in future your heated glass is broken - you can replace it with much cheaper standard glass and then stick the heated element on from the old ones. You'll need to heat up the old glass with a heat gun, but then the element will peel off.

I have a 98 Chimaera and the heated mirrors come on automatically without switching the blower on. Not sure what the trigger is (starting?) and not quite sure when they turn off either...certainly not on for long. Once told opening the door switches them off.....

Mine's a 98 4L, they work on mine - seems to be automatic when you start up in the morning. Maybe there's a temp sensor in the mirror???

I believe they're a standard fit on the Chimaera -- they come on for 15 minutes or so after turning on the ignition.

Is there a red light in a Chimaera for the wing mirror heater? The only lights I seem to have are the green and red ones which I assume indicate the hot and cold end of the heater control dial.
I did notice the mirrors wer'nt too badly misted up it never occured to me that they may be heated
