Mysterious Whine

I travel 35000miles per annum in a blue soulless machine with 4 rings on the front.Nothing ever goes wrong but its like drinking in a witherspoons pub.On the other hand the Chimaera likes attention,almost to the point I start listening for abnormal noises.Reccently I have noticed after start up a low whining noice from the rear end.It sounds electrical,and when you lift the boot and put your head inside you can hear it a little louder.When you turn on the ignition everything primes up OK and you do not notice it untill the engine is running.Has anyone experienced this before?
On the good news front I have asked Santa for version two of the 'bible'hoping this will help to point me in the right direction for the future.

Fuel pump????...makes sense if you go to the boot and it sounds louder as you are getting closer to it??????

Its the fuel pump. Nothing to worry about.

That seems a bit strange as usually it is most obvious when the ignition is turned on as it primes the system and before firing up, then is drowned out by the exhaust note. I had intermittent episodes of fuel pump noise on the XJS and these seemed to conicide with;
a) high ambient temps and low fuel level, i.e when the fuel is getting hot and being recirculated rapidly,
b) a fuel starvation problem, which I ultimately tracked down to a choked filter on the pick-up in the tank (not the main filter) I don't know if there is one on the TVR, but its a possibility.

Otherwise, could it be that the pump body - or a fuel hose - is fouling the chassis / body (again I haven't looked closely at the TVR mounting, but usually there is either a rubber mount or a foam sleeve to insulate the body / chassis from transmitted noise) due to a problem with the mounting?

I have experienced this also. does not seem to be any problem though - Yet!

Could it be the fuel tank vacuum 'singing'?

Many thanks for the prompt replies.I agree the fuel pump is the likely culprit, but it is a new noise,I'll keep a look out.
By the way my other half only whines when I ask her to drive,can you believe it!!!!

I have the same noise, but it's only when I'm low on fuel (< 0.25 tank) in fact I use it as a fuel reminder :¬

On the subject of funny noises, I also have a 'slap' noise in top when I come off the power. I'm assuming this is a gear box issue, it isn't getting worse and hasn't since I got the car 10K miles ago. Anyone one with an idea and maybe a cost of fixing (if indeed it needs fixing!)
