loss of power on acceleration

After saying about how quick red ones are i now confess my car has a slight problem which does compromise speed / acceleration.

If i accelerate gently as in ease the throttle down, the car goes through the rev range quite happy, smooth and as fast as i want it to, obviously keeping within the speed limits.

If i accelerate hard, 1st gear is great. when i am in any other gear it hits about 3.5 4k revs and starts to loose power as if it is spluterring and if i back of just a bit it will pick up again.

It almost feels as though it is flooding???

Any ideas or is it just a case of sabotage from Green or Blue chim owners???

Have a look at the inside of the air intake duct, sometimes these delaminate and collapse internally under the slight suction you get at full power.

as in the main hose going from air filter to air flow meter?

Also check all intake pipes around the airflow meter etc are connected properly.

This can also indicate that there might be a problem with one of the cats?

Also, been driving in the rain lately?

The airflow meter doesn't like the damp. I had a similar problem btu putting it in the airing cupboard for a coupel of days sorted it out.

Could also be the throttle pot though. I had a slight irregular problem similar to yours (alter than previous) and changing the throttle pot cured it.

The car is used everyday, rain or shine, so it could be damp...could be one of the cats? If its that then they are going to have to wait till next year when i get some new manifolds...other than that i shall do the checks above and have a look around...see if anything is loose / delaminated.

Can see a smooth induction kit comming up!!!

If it is this i am not going to buy you a pint...i am going to get you a brewery!!!

Must admit the metal heatshield duct that is over this haas seen better days so the airhose underneath has probably suffered...will check in a few hours when i finish work!!!

Ha ha on a serious note i would be looking at the ignition system not giving a good old spark, under light light throttle/acceration you dont need so much of a spark but under wide open throttle it need to be in tip top condition, i would try the rotor arm as my first step, and if you have a new one forget that i would still change it!!

Have to admit the rotor arm is old...it has done 6k miles since i have had it and i did replace it with a halfraud$ rotor and it ran really bad so i out the original back on....i will get a new lucas one and see what difference that makes....and just fir the record GreenV8s...yes there was a bit of hose in the inside that had come loose!!!!!!!!
