Power graph of my 4.0

After fitting a new radiator last weekend, my car has become much smoother and, strangely, it feels more powerful. So i thought i'd check it's power using my performance meter (Race Technology AP22). Was happily surprised by the results:

Max power 218 bhp @ 5442 rpm
Max torque 227 lb ft @ 4283 rpm



The last time i collected data was in August after i had put on new HT leads, plugs, coil, dizzy cap and rotor arm. Power is up about 15 bhp and torque up 20 lb ft! The increase must be down to the cold air (as opposed to hot August air), the BP Ultimate i'm currently using (was Tesco 99 Ron in Aug) and the new ignition parts having bedded in and the ecu adjusting (if it can do so?).

I'm positive the radiator has also helped, even though i cant really see why. Either way, i appear to have quite a healthy 4.0

They are very healthy figures; just hope the racer can get that sort of power. Can I ask what spec (ie cam) and how old your engine is?

Has the new radiator made any difference to running temp, i.e. is it hotter or colder than before?

The cam is standard and was replaced about 3000 miles ago. As far as i can tell, my car is not a HC. The only upgrade to the engine is the Magnecor KV85 HT leads. It's a 94 model.

With regards to running temps, it's always run at about 75'C increasing to about 80 in traffic (a bit more in summer). With the new aluminium radiator, it now runs about 75 in traffic and about 60 on fast national speed limit roads. It seems a bit low, but it is very cold at the moment so can't really comment until we get some warmer weather.

Forgot to check the in-gear performance figures to see if is actually any faster. Will have a look tonight.

I had mine on the rollers on Friday and had:

Max power: 208.5bhp
Max torque: 255.8lb/ft

Which I'm pleased with, although I'm sure there's plenty more ponies to be had

Looks about bang on for a std 4ltr just about every 4ltr chim i've seen on the rollers makes around 180 bhp at the wheels

I'll try and get a graph of the tuscan in jan. its a std 4ltr with lighten and balance, xbolt and a 218 JE cam, oh yeah and a dry sump but i doubt it makes much more than that..

60 is much to low the stat will be closed and the oil to think, if thats a true reading the guages are not known for their accuracy, although having said that we checked mine and the guage was about spot on

it used to run at about 85 in moving traffic, straight up to 90 in stop start and back down to 80 when the fans kicked in and 75-80 on a clear nsl

even is scorchio weather in a traffic jam back from Lm to calis its never been over 95

in the winter on the mway it would drop to 70 or less and the she didnt run as well. also the heater would be freezing !!!

Interesting, just now mine runs at about 65 when I'm moving and up to 90 in traffic... about 10 degrees cooler than in the summer... but the heater still works fine, i.e. still hot!

Thats why when my dad followed you, your car was quick low down acceration, all that torque!
