Stuttering

This weekend my 5.0 Chim developed a stutter. This was particularly noticeable at walking pace in traffic, where the engine sounded as if it missed a beat for a split second, and happened every couple of minutes or thereabouts. I also noticed it a bit at speed. Later in the day (having stopped at home for an hour or so) the problem had gone, but the next day it returned on one journey. Everything else is fine as ever.

I've asked the small independent garage a couple of doors down from my house to have a look and listen, as my theory is either leads breaking down, a dead plug, or possibly a relay on its last legs. This theory is based on absolutely nothing, as I don't know much about engines! Anyway, can anyone offer any thoughts so that I can at least make a few clever suggestions to the mechanics so they don't spend hours rubbing their chins!

I would start with cleaning the stepper motor as this will not cost you anything! When you put it back in put some PTFE tape round it to make a good seal. Also agree with the possibiltity of HT Leads or Coil, did all of the above on mine to make it run better.

Thanks for the stepper motor suggestion. Is this something a non-TVR specialist will know about?

Also, can anyone recommend the best leads, plugs, coil etc.

Sillicon leads from ACT perfromance Get the plug shrouds as well
NGK Sparkplugs B7ECS
Coil from Bosch part number: 0221 122 392
Dizzy cap and rotor arm from ACT along with Ignition amp if needed

To be honest it sounds like a leak in the pleanum chamber.

Stepper motor is only for the engine at idle speed.

Sounds like a mis-fire to me, how old are your leads?
