Just got In so i haven't looked to hard as its late and raining! but my drivers side mirror has become really loose and pointing very downward is it easy to "tighten" up or is there likely to be more to it. I Hope its done from outside the door, as it looks like a nightmare to get behind! any help appreciated looks like a sunday morning job!

Yep!

Sorry, not being much help am I?! If it's fixed anything like an S3 (same mirrors) there will be a big nut inside that's worked loose. It happened on my S3 and the cause was folding the mirror back and forth to help get it in the garage. Definitely an 'inside the door/arm up the speaker grille/skinned knuckles job' I think, but hopefully some Chimaera owners can add more detail.

From your profile, you have a 5L, which I guess has the mirrors with door buttons on - anyway with the newer mirrors, the whole assembly unscrews from the door - don't bother taking off the interior door panel.
It's a bit of a knack - the whole mirror should just unscrew, but there is an internal grubscrew that may have come loose, which will mean that the mirror just turns & turns.
If this is the case -
Put lots of masking tape on the bodywork & the mirror, then carefully prise the nylon sleeve into the body of the mirror and try to jam the mechanism while unscrewing (Its worth having a
good look inside with one of those small mirror thingies on a stick so that you understand how it's supposed to work)
Then, with the mirror off, you can tighten the grub screw & put things back together again.
Be careful with pulling the masking tape off, because the paint wants to come too.
If you manage this, it might be useful to take photos, so that it's easier to explain to someone else what to do
Alternatively, leave it to the garage

if the mirror is loose, which bit is moving ?

is the body of the mirror moving separately from the bit of aluminium under the nylon sleeve (that's what it looks like from the photo) it looks like the bit in the door is solid, as is the "stem" which is attached by a grud screw as previously mentioned (or has that rotated)

in that case you'll have to get the mirror of and then re-attach the stem inside the mirror

If the stem is rotating on the bolt in the door then (depending on how loose it is) you could drop some glue/sealant in there, or take it off and re-assemble as before

If the bolt in the door is loose, just unscrew it and take the mirror out

If you're removing it, you'll need to take the spealer out of the door and disconnect the mirror control and the door opener

Best of luck

Ben

PS mailed you offline, before I saw the picture, sorry it wasn't very detailed

If its the grooved mirror like the V8S and S3C then it sounds like the inner bit is ok and the outside bit has come loose.

Clear as mud eh. Right, is the mirror turning round whilst the main housing fixed from inside the door stays in place? If so look around the mirror stem under the plastic cover shown in the photo. You should see a small grub screw with allen key head. This is usually the cause. It can be tightened up with an allen key. Mine is in the most awkward position to get at when the mirror is in the correct place but it could be tightened once I had shortened both ends of the allen key to fit the gap - a fiddly job but do-able.
