happy new year guys...hope someone can offer a bit of direction on this one..have got a recurring prob that clears then comes back!! basically car starts ok..will tick over ok but when accel is pressed on off to rev it the revs dont pick up till pedal back up!!obviously it wont pull away as the revs then drop right off and stalls.but then its as if its magically cleared and will pull away and tick over smoothly.however even when running relatively smoothly its still not quite right, feels a bit missy all thro range even up to high speeds.have cleaned stepper, new plugs, leads, rotor arm and dizzy and finally a new coil oh have even completely emptied petrol in case of contamination..tis starting to batter ones head now..have also checked for loose wires, connections, pipes etc but found none.checked in blackness of garage last nite for any wayward sparks but none. someone please help meeeeee all the best cheers mark. car is a 96 4lt btw

Have you checked for inlet air leaks?

Read the ECU fault codes - could save you a lot of time hunting for faulty components.

I hire out a reader for £10 per week or you can buy one for £100 in the TVR parts PH ads.

A faulty AFM can cause that - it doesn't show the increase in air flow, the engine runs leaner and leaner as you open the throttle and develop a severe misfire. I've had the engine at full throttle and full boost and still barely producing enough torque to keep idling. In my case the problem was intermittant, and the engine went from 0 to 400 lb-ft and back again at random - made for some rather entertaining driving!
