I have been having missfirng problems for a while, some days worse than others. I had already replaced leads and plugs, fixed the problem for a few months.

So i took the coil off and gave it a shake, it does have some liquid rattling about. Is this normal to have a little. There is no leaks.

It should be absolutely full of oil. If you can feel it sloshing around inside, this implies you have some air in there. That's bad news and would normally lead to an internal failure within the coil.

Thanks for that. New coil needed I think then.

I went for quick run today and i noticed it was getting worse after it was hot under the bonnet. Pulling away from junctions i could hear it was not as healthy as normal and it cut out when i got home and rolled to a stop.

I had to get a new battery last week (cold weather finished the old one off ) so at least it starts again now after cutting out.

Just be sure to get the Bosch coil when you get a new one dont whatever you do go for the standard TVR unbranded piece of sh*t.

Yeah dont worry it will be a Bosch one alright. It looks like a standard one fitted at the moment. Well was fitted its now sitting next to me. A nice black heat absorbing one with no marking other than COL 220.

Bosch part number is PRC6574 I think.

How about the FLAME THROWER from Demon Tweeks, about £40 I think, it comes in chrome too.

There was a lot of discussion about the FLAME THROWER here a while back www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=8&t=198177&h=0&hw=flame+thrower

Personally I love my Bosch :-)

Above thread 'twas me.

I had nothing but trouble from a Flamethrower - despite repeated replacements. But fitted a Bosch from ACT and still going strong.

Have no idea why, I didn't think the RV8 was that fussy about ignition requirements or maybe mine was just a one-off? For the money i'd stick with the Bosch.

Cheers
